The main objectives of the pilot project are to jointly learn for the future, to acquire and to disseminate knowledge as widely as possible as well as to kick-off a cross-organisational learning process. In order to maximize learning, ebaix has chosen the following approaches:

Systematic assessment with a long-term perspective; Cross-organisational participatory learning process; (Audio)visualization of learning results to the extent possible.

During the preparation phase of the project ebaix has invited the four participating NGOs and the donor Swiss Solidarity to a one-day facilitated workshop with the aim of identifying the key learning topics for the pilot project. The group has selected three key learning topics: Use of the houses/buildings; Quality/Sustainability; The relevance of measures accompanying the reconstruction (e.g. income generating activities, rehabilitation of infrastructure).

Additional topics (addressed to the extent possible only): Beneficiary selection; Role of beneficiary contribution, importance for ownership, for use of the buildings and for increased capacities of beneficiaries in reconstruction; Crosscutting issues: Voice of the beneficiaries, open-ended questions, and room for the unexpected.

This report presents the findings from the first country visit within the pilot project.
